Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick is confident that Erik ten Hag can improve the Red Devils during his time at the club.

Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick is confident that Erik ten Hag can oversee an improvement at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils confirmed on Thursday that Ten Hag has been appointed the club's new head coach on a contract that will run until June 2025, with the option of a further 12 months.

Rangnick will continue to lead the team for the rest of the season, with the German still battling to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League table.

The 63-year-old is "pretty positive" that Ten Hag will be able to lead the team in the right direction following a difficult 2021-22 campaign.

"We don't know each other in person. From what I've seen of him with Bayern Munich and Ajax now, I like his football and I'm pretty positive with a full pre-season and having the chance to build and mould his own staff with a new team, I'm pretty sure we'll see a different team and improvement on the pitch," Rangnick told reporters.

Rangnick is set to become an advisor for the 20-time English champions at the end of the season, with the German likely to be involved in the club's recruitment process.
