Manchester United boss David Moyes to assess Wayne Rooney's fitness

Manchester United manager David Moyes says that he will assess Wayne Rooney's fitness before deciding whether to play him against Swansea City this weekend.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has claimed that he will assess striker Wayne Rooney's fitness before deciding whether he will play a part in the club's Premier League opener.

The 27-year-old failed to feature during United's pre-season schedule due to hamstring and shoulder problems, but he started for England in their friendly 3-2 victory over Scotland at Wembley last night.

"I think I need to see how he is when we get back," Moyes told Sky Sports News. "When I get back I will try and assess him.

"I watched the game on Wednesday, I thought for the 65 minutes he played he did well, ran around and got himself some fitness, but it was his first real outing in a competitive game."

Moyes's first league fixture in charge of the Red Devils is against Swansea City on Saturday.
