Louis van Gaal 'unhappy with Jesse Lingard call-up'

Louis van Gaal has voiced his concerns with Roy Hodgson's decision to name Jesse Lingard in his updated England squad, according to a report.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has reportedly been left unhappy with Roy Hodgson's decision to call Jesse Lingard up to the senior England squad.

The 22-year-old has been included in the Three Lions' group to face France on Tuesday night after Jamie Vardy and Michael Carrick both pulled out through injury.

Lingard has impressed at club level in recent times, starting in three of the Red Devils' last four games to earn his first senior call-up.

According to The Mirror, however, Van Gaal is concerned by the forward's inclusion after previously playing down talk of a place in the senior fold.

Speaking after the 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion last month, the Dutchman told reporters: "I would say it is much too early and we have to wait and see to see if he is consistent in his [form] because he is more or less the same age as Memphis Depay. So we have to wait and see."

Lingard has previously represented his country at Under-17 and Under-21 age levels, but has never been a part of the senior setup.
