Ronald Koeman: 'Manchester United have enough quality for title contention'

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman believes that there is more than enough talent in the Manchester United squad to challenge for the Premier League title.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman feels that Manchester United have the quality to challenge for the Premier League title this season and in the coming years.

Louis van Gaal's side spent heavily in the summer to land Angel di Maria, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera, as well as sign Radamel Falcao on loan until the end of the campaign.

However, the Dutchman claimed that he would need three years to make them title challengers, something which Koeman does not agree with.

He told reporters: "It's up to him - if he needs two years more, give him two years more. Of course maybe he is doing different to other managers but I don't believe that you need two years or one year.

"No - it's all about qualities of the players and they have to do that. And the better the players, the easier it is for the manager."

When Asked if United should be nearer to Chelsea and Manchester City given the money that has been spent over the summer, Koeman said: "In [terms of] individual quality of the players, yes."

Southampton face the Red Devils at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
