Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs admits that his side were lucky to beat Liverpool earlier today.

Ryan Giggs has conceded that Manchester United were fortunate to take maximum points from their trip to Liverpool this afternoon.

The Red Devils failed to control large parts of the encounter, but goals from Rafael and Robin van Persie saw the visitors overturn a one-goal deficit to claim the victory at Anfield.

Looking back over the match, Welshman Giggs admitted that his side have previously played better against the Reds and lost.

"The last three or four years we have come and played better but not got anything, that is the way it goes sometimes," Giggs told Sky Sports News. "It is always tough, especially against a team like Liverpool who keep the ball well, even when they go down to 10 men.

"We didn't play well, we didn't keep the ball well enough, but it was great to see Rafael's goal go in and that probably lifted us. Anfield is a tough place to come."

United had not won at Anfield since 2007.
