Sir Alex Ferguson believes that the FA's appointment of Roy Hodgson is the first decision the governing body have made that didn't result from media pressure.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Roy Hodgson is the right man to take England forward and has praised the Football Association for not succumbing to pressure from the media.

The former West Bromwich Albion boss was appointed as the new Three Lions coach on a four-year deal on Tuesday, despite Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp being the overwhelming favourite to take the job.

"[Hodgson's] a good man with fantastic experience," said Ferguson. "[It's] the first time in a while the FA didn't bend to the press."

Meanwhile, the Scotsman has confirmed that Red Devils duo Danny Welbeck and Jonny Evans will be sidelined for United's Premier League bout with Swansea City on Sunday.
