Casemiro is absent from Manchester United's matchday squad for this afternoon's Manchester derby with rivals Manchester City, who make six changes for the clash at Old Trafford.

Manchester United will be without midfielder Casemiro for the 191st Manchester derby against rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford this afternoon.

The 31-year-old missed the 2-1 win at Sheffield United last weekend due to an ankle problem sustained on international duty with Brazil, but there was quiet optimism that he would return in time to face the Citizens.

However, Casemiro - who also missed the 1-0 Champions League win over Copenhagen on Tuesday through suspension - has not been named in Erik ten Hag's matchday squad to face Man City, with the Red Devils boss making a total of three changes to the side that began the midweek victory over the Danish outfit.

Raphael Varane played the full 90 minutes against Copenhagen, but he is only fit enough to make the substitutes' bench this afternoon, so Jonny Evans has taken his place in the first XI to partner Harry Maguire at centre-back.

Sergio Reguilon also makes way and is replaced at left-back by Victor Lindelof, while Diogo Dalot retains his place at right-back as goakeeper Andre Onana starts between the sticks.

The final change sees Christian Eriksen return at the expense of Antony, with the playmaker expected to link arms with Sofyan Amrabat and Scott McTominay in midfield, while captain Bruno Fernandes will either operate on the right side of attack or as a number 10 in behind attackers Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund.

As for Man City, Pep Guardiola has made six changes to the side that secured a 3-1 victory over Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday, with Kyle Walker, John Stones and Josko Gvardiol all returning in defence to play alongside Ruben Dias, with the suspended Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and Rico Lewis making way.

Bernardo Silva is preferred ahead of both Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes to partner Rodri in centre-midfield - Stones is also set to roam into midfield throughout the game - while in-form Argentine Julian Alvarez is recalled to provide support in attack for Erling Haaland after being rested in midweek.

Jack Grealish retains his place on the left flank and will make his 100th appearance for Man City this afternoon, while Stockport-born Phil Foden is selected to start at the expense of Jeremy Doku.
