James Milner has offered his full support to interim England manager Stuart Pearce and backed the former left-back to guide England at this summer's European Championships.

Pearce was put in temporary charge following the departure of Fabio Capello earlier this month and the Under-21s coach has expressed his desire to stay on at the helm for longer.

"If Stuart Pearce is manager the Euros, it is not a problem for me," said Milner. "He is a great manager, was a great player, and in the two Under-21 tournaments we were unlucky on both occasions.

"We should have won at least one of them but what I noticed was that in the tournaments I had under him, we went in very well prepared.

"He thinks about every aspect which could come up in a tournament, every eventuality, how we are going to have to play, and how to plan for combating certain teams."

Pearce recently hinted that Milner could be the right man to lead England against Holland on Wednesday and the Manchester City midfielder went on to say that wearing the national armband is something he's always dreamed of.

"I think when you grow up as a kid you dream one day you might be England captain," continued the former Aston Villa and Newcastle man.

"I've been lucky enough to play in a World Cup so to be captain would be a great honour."

Tomorrow's friendly against the Dutch at Wembley kicks off at 8pm.
