Ilkay Gundogan "could not be much happier" at Manchester City

Ilkay Gundogan insists that nobody compares to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola when it comes to setting out his team to win games.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has admitted that he is loving life at the club after being given the chance to work under Pep Guardiola.

The 27-year-old has featured heavily for the Citizens since September after being left frustrated by injury in his maiden campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

Gundogan has played a part in Man City's hugely impressive season, which could end with silverware on three fronts if they can maintain their current form.

Speaking to RTL, the Germany international put his side's near-perfect campaign down to the tactical work of Guardiola.

"Sporting things are going very well, both for the team and for me personally," he said . "I could not be much happier. Pep Guardiola tactically brings a gift that is second to none in the world.

"When we go to the pitch and see what [Guardiola's tactics] trigger, then a light goes on. The way we see football is quite similar. He played in a similar position to where I'm playing now and he's also a big fan of midfielders."

Gundogan was the first signing sanctioned by Guardiola when he arrived at City in June 2016.
