Report: Liverpool, Origi to begin contract talks

Divock Origi will reportedly commit his future to Liverpool with a new long-term deal after playing a key back-up role in 2018-19.

Despite being afforded limited opportunities, the Belgian striker finished the season as the Reds' fourth-highest scorer in all competitions with a combined seven goals.

Origi scored some vital goals along the way, including late winners against Everton, Newcastle United and Barcelona, as well as the trophy-sealing strike against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final.

Having cemented his status as a cult icon at Anfield with his clinical finish against Spurs, The Mirror reports that Origi is close to putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Jurgen Klopp is supposedly confident that the former Lille and Wolfsburg loanee can make a similar impact from the bench next season.

Liverpool announced on Tuesday that fellow back-up striker Daniel Sturridge will leave the club this summer.
