Liverpool are reportedly weighing up a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given.

The Reds made Simon Mignolet their most expensive ever keeper when they signed him from Sunderland for £9m earlier this summer.

However, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to add some competition for places at Anfield and has earmarked Given as a potential signing, according to the Daily Mail.

Liverpool could tie up a deal for the Irishman by the weekend should talks progress well with the Villans.
