Liverpool are reportedly ready to rival Barcelona in the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

Liverpool are reportedly giving consideration to joining the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

Owing to his ability and versatility, the Germany international has been one of Bayern's key players for a number of years.

The 28-year-old - who can be deployed at right-back or in central midfield - has contributed six goals and nine assists from 41 outings in the Bundesliga and Champions League during 2022-23.

Such is Kimmich's status at the Allianz Arena that Bayern officials and head coach Thomas Tuchel will be against his departure during the summer transfer window.

However, Kimmich has just over two years left on his contract, with the possibility of a desire to take on a new challenge after eight years at the club.

Barcelona have been credited with an interest in Kimmich, even if it is well documented that they must first resolve their complex financial situation.

According to Marca, Kimmich is interested in a switch to Camp Nou if Barcelona are able to facilitate the transfer.

As it stands, though, that appears unlikely with the signing of Kimmich due to cost €20m (£17.4m) with regards to amortization, something which is not feasible for the La Liga champions.

The report adds that Liverpool are monitoring the situation as they contemplate ways to strengthen their midfield department over the coming weeks.

James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all leaving Anfield, with Brighton & Hove Albion's Alexis Mac Allister expected to act as a replacement.

Nevertheless, Jurgen Klopp requires further additions, and although Kimmich is above the age range that will be deemed ideal, his ability to be deployed at right-back could convince the Merseyside giants to push ahead.

Liverpool, who will be playing in the Europa League next season barring Leicester City thrashing Newcastle United on Monday evening, require competition for Trent Alexander-Arnold with Milner and potentially Joe Gomez leaving Anfield.

Bayern are allegedly not prepared to consider selling Kimmich unless they reach an offer in the region of €60m (£52.2m).
