Report: Liverpool target Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho

Liverpool are targeting a January move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to reports.

Italian publication Calcio Mercato claims that the Reds are hoping to complete the deal before the transfer window opens.

The 23-year-old was named player of the tournament as Portugal won the European Under-21 Championship in the summer, and Brendan Rodgers is thought to be looking to strengthen Liverpool's defensive midfield options in January.

Carvalho has previously been linked with moves to Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester United.
