Jonjo Shelvey's attitude to being out of the Liverpool starting lineup receives praise from his manager Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has hailed the attitude that Jonjo Shelvey has shown in recent weeks.

During the early part of the season, the midfielder was a regular in Rodgers's starting lineups. However, since the turn of the year, Shelvey has spent the majority of his time on the bench, as well as featuring in some reserve fixtures.

However, rather than express his disappointment, Rodgers has insisted that Shelvey has reacted to his omissions in a positive manner.

"Jonjo is a great kid, he wants to learn and he is prepared to work hard. He hasn't had so many chances recently, but he is still a great prospect," the boss told the club's official website.

"He played in a reserve game recently, and asked to be used in the holding position because he wants to learn about the role, and about his craft. That shows the attitude he has."

Twenty-one-year-old Shelvey signed on at Anfield in 2010 from Charlton Athletic.
