Liverpool's Mohamed Salah out to break all-time Premier League goals and assists record in Brighton clash

Liverpool's Salah out to break Premier League goals and assists record in Brighton clash

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will attempt to set a new Premier League goals and assists record in Sunday's home meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Having racked up 64 points from 28 matches, Liverpool head into the weekend in second position and behind leaders Arsenal on goal difference.

With the Gunners set to face third-placed Manchester City on Sunday, the Reds will have the chance to gain ground on at least one of their title rivals this weekend.

Liverpool, who are unbeaten in five league games, are preparing to face a Brighton side that has lost three of their previous four away matches in the top flight.

While the hosts will be the obvious favourites, they will be fully aware of Brighton's quality after being held to a 2-2 draw in October's reverse fixture.

On that occasion, Salah scored a six-minute brace to give Liverpool a 2-1 lead, before England international Lewis Dunk netted a 78th-minute equaliser.

Those two strikes have helped Salah accumulate 15 Premier League goals this season – a tally that has only been bettered by Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Manchester City's Erling Haaland.

In addition to his goalscoring exploits, Salah has also been an important creative outlet, contributing nine assists in the top flight this term.

As a result, the Egypt international needs just one more assist to become the first player in Premier League history to hit double figures for goals and assists in three consecutive seasons.

With Salah targeting a record-breaking performance, he may draw inspiration from the fact that he has provided an assist in Liverpool's last two home meetings with Brighton.

Liverpool's struggles in head-to-head meetings

Unfortunately for Liverpool, Salah's contributions in those two home games could only lead to draws rather than victories.

In fact, Jurgen Klopp''s side have failed to win any of their previous three home matches against the South-coast club.

Liverpool have also gone four head-to-head games without a win since Salah scored in a 2-0 victory at the Amex Stadium in March 2022.

Nevertheless, the Reds still have reason to be optimistic after winning 11 of their 14 Premier League home matches this season (D3).
