Jurgen Klopp hails Gabriel Martinelli as "a talent of the century"

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed Arsenal's young striker Gabriel Martinelli as a "talent of the century".

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed Arsenal's young striker Gabriel Martinelli as a "talent of the century".

The 18-year-old, who joined the Gunners from Brazilian third division side Ituano in the summer, scored a brace in Wednesday's 5-5 EFL Cup game between the two sides, which Liverpool eventually won on penalties.

Klopp fielded a number of the Reds' youngsters in the midweek game, and afterwards he spoke highly of Martinelli and Arsenal's performance in an enthralling match.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach said to the club's official website: "Sepp van den Berg played an incredible game.

"That's really difficult to deal with these guys. Martinelli's pretty much the same age but he's a talent of the century, he's an incredible striker, so it's really difficult.

"Then you have Mesut Ozil around and Willock right, who scored by the way a really nice one, so a team like Arsenal in a counter-attacking mood – we keep them deep, play around them, we lose the ball and then it's really difficult."

Martinelli's goals on Wednesday took him to seven for the season in as many games with the Gunners.
