Liverpool receive injury update on Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister

Available for Forest fixture? Liverpool receive update on Mac Allister

Liverpool have been provided with an update on the fitness of midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

The 25-year-old has started Arne Slot's reign as manager with three starts in the Premier League, all of them ending in victories with clean sheets.

Although Mac Allister has failed to provide a goal or assist in those contests, he has continued to showcase that he is a vital cog in the team.

However, the former Brighton & Hove Albion man has endured a spell with his country that has been far from smooth, initially being an injury doubt for last Thursday's World Cup qualifier with Chile.

Despite Lionel Scaloni acknowledging that the player had been "overloaded", he still gave him 79 minutes during the 3-0 victory in that game.

Scaloni gives Mac Allister update

Soon after that fixture, though, it was revealed that Mac Allister had sustained some kind of muscle injury, putting his participation in upcoming matches in doubt.

That was particularly the case for Tuesday's showdown with Colombia, but Scaloni has indicated that Mac Allister will be fit enough to take his place in the starting lineup.

Speaking to reporters, Scaloni said: "The team is fine, recovering from the game the other day, with some typical ailments.

"Nico (Gonzalez) trained separately and Alexis (Mac Allister) with the rest of the group. We will see how they have evolved over the last two days to decide how we are going to play."

How will Slot handle Mac Allister?

If Mac Allister is fit to feature against Colombia, that is an obvious positive for Liverpool and Slot as they enter a busy period of the season.

On the flip side, the Dutchman would likely prefer for one of his preferred midfield trio to be handed a rest if he is not in 100% condition.

Liverpool have five matches across a two-week period, starting from September 14 when they play host to currently-unbeaten Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

A Champions League showdown with AC Milan at San Siro follows three days later, before further matches against Bournemouth, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
