Claude Puel encouraged despite Leicester City defeat

Puel encouraged despite Leicester defeat

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has insisted that he was encouraged by his side's performance against Tottenham Hotspur despite falling to a 3-1 defeat at Wembley.

The Foxes missed a penalty and spurned a number of other good chances which could have seen them take something from the game as they ultimately slumped to a fifth defeat in their last six outings.

Puel does not believe that the result was a fair one, but was pleased with his players' display and is confident that the performance will bode well for future matches.

"I have the same feeling as I did against United. We made a good quality performance, we had good moves. I think we helped them by not finding a good clinical edge. It is a big shame, a big disappointment," Puel told reporters at his post-match press conference.

"I think it's not a fair result but it's our fault because we had a lot of chances. We didn't perform when trying to find the finishing touch at the end of the good work. It's a mixed feeling - we showed a lot of quality which is encouraging and we should have led this game, but we finish with big regrets and it is difficult to accept. It is encouraging for the future, but we need points.

"It is harsh to concede two goals in these situations. The first goal I don't know if it was offside, and the second goal is a handball. We conceded two goals without conceding a lot of chances. We had all of the opportunities to win this game. It is a difficult feeling, but it is encouraging we showed a good mentality and positive attitude."

The result leaves Leicester 12th in the Premier League table, eight points clear of the relegation zone.
