Barnsley see off Leeds United at Oakwell

A brace from Chris Dagnall helps Barnsley to defeat Leeds United at Oakwell.

Leeds United have fallen to a 2-0 defeat at Yorkshire rivals Barnsley this afternoon.

Luciano Becchio had a decent opportunity to open the scoring in the seventh minute, but the Argentine could not guide his header on target.

The hosts grew in stature as the half wore on but, despite being on top, could not force an opener.

The Tykes were awarded a penalty in the 62nd minute when Samuel Bryam was adjudged to have brought down Chris Dagnall.

The striker dusted himself off and stepped up to take the kick and sent Paddy Kenny the wrong way to break the deadlock.

He doubled his and Barnsley's tally three minutes later with a low shot into Kenny's right corner.

David Flitcroft's men saw out the remaining half-hour to seal a victory that takes them to within a point of safety.
