Inter Milan manager Claudio Ranieri has paid tribute to the people of Genoa after recent severe weather in the region.
Inter's game with Genoa on Sunday has been cancelled after the deaths of six people in the heavy rain and flooding.
"Seeing the images from Genoa just hits you in the heart, so we are close to the people and our thoughts go to those suffering at this time," Ranieri told Inter Channel.
"Obviously football takes a step back. Unfortunately we see that every three or four years something like that happens. This time it was a catastrophe. I hopes lessons can be learned to prevent further problems.
"It just seems a terrible shame that we can only act afterwards, whereas these events should have been prevented and those lives saved."
The rescheduled date for the fixture will be announced on Monday.
