Hull City manager Steve Bruce delighted with Shaun Maloney start

Hull City manager Steve Bruce believes that Shaun Maloney can add another dimension to the Tigers' play, following the Scotland international's full debut for the side.

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has praised the impact made by midfielder Shaun Maloney on his full debut for the side.

Bruce believes that Maloney, who provided the assist for David Meyler's winner against Swansea City in the League Cup, can offer another dimension to the Tigers' play as they search for instant promotion back to the Premier League.

The 54-year-old, regarding the Scotland international's performance against Swansea, told the Hull Daily Mail: "I thought he was excellent. He'll give us something different that we'll benefit from.

"He's a really clever footballer who gets himself in little areas and retains the ball. He takes us forward, too. We have to play on the front foot more. We had a very young team against Swansea and the easy thing to do is go backwards.

"We've got to have a belief about us that we can go forward and create chances. We shouldn't be frightened about making a mistake. We've got a lot of young players learning their trade. Shaun Maloney can be that little bit of experience, which some of them will need. I'm sure he'll help Andy Robertson, in particular."

Bruce's outfit, who currently sit in fourth position in the Championship table, welcome 19th-placed Blackburn Rovers to the KC Stadium on Saturday.
