Steve Bruce: 'Jake Livermore in contention for Swansea City tie'

Bruce: 'Livermore in contention for Swansea tie'

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has revealed that Jake Livermore is in contention to play against Swansea City in midweek.

It was announced earlier this month that the 25-year-old will face no suspension after testing positive for cocaine.

The Tigers midfielder avoided punishment due to the "specific and unique nature of the circumstances surrounding the case", which came after the death of his his newborn son.

Bruce is now considering playing Livermore in the League Cup tie against Swansea on Tuesday night, although questions still remain over his fitness levels.

"Jake has come in and wants to get back playing again," he told BBC Sport. "I will speak to my medical team and my staff as he has only trained for six days.

"Whether I put Jake in on Tuesday, I'll make up my mind in the next 24 hours. A footballer wants to play. No-one wants to sit in the stands."

Livermore, who joined City from Tottenham Hotspur for £8m in August 2014, has not played a competitive game since last May.
