Hull City edge past Brighton & Hove Albion in FA Cup replay

Hull edge into the FA Cup quarter-finals courtesy of a narrow 2-1 victory over Brighton in their fifth-round replay this evening.

Hull City have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup courtesy of a 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in their fifth-round replay at the KC Stadium this evening.

The hosts took the lead after just 14 minutes when Robert Koren's corner was met by Curtis Davies, who sent a looping header over Peter Brezovan and into the back of the net.

Koren was involved again in Hull's second 10 minutes before the break, drilling a low free kick towards goal that took a slight deflection which diverted it away from the keeper and into the back of the net.

The visitors came within inches of pulling a goal back just five minutes before the restart when David Lopez's cross was met by Lewis Dunk, who smashed his effort against the Hull crossbar.

The Tigers almost extended their lead just before the hour mark when Maynor Figueroa beat three men down the left before exchanging passes with Sone Aluko, only to see his eventual shot tipped past the post.

Brighton made things interesting 20 minutes from the end when Lopez delivered a free kick from deep that Leonardo Ulloa met with a flicked header past Steve Harper.

Ulloa almost grabbed a dramatic late equaliser in the 86th minute when he turned just outside the box before curling an effort just past the post.

The Seagulls could not force extra time, however, as Hull set up a quarter-final showdown with Sunderland.
