Fabio Cannavaro named as Guangzhou Evergrande's new head coach

Cannavaro takes charge of Chinese club

Fabio Cannavaro has been confirmed as the new head coach of Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande.

The 2006 World Cup-winning Italy captain has replaced his fellow countryman Marcello Lippi, who stepped down from the role on Sunday.

The Chinese outfit announced the appointment on their official website and also confirmed that Lippi will remain at the club as a technical director.

Cannavaro, who worked as a pundit for ITV during the World Cup in Brazil, has returned to coaching following his previous stint at Al-Ahli, which ended in 2011.
