Bundesliga visitors Eintracht Frankfurt will begin their domestic season with a clash in the first round of the DFB-Pokal against FV Engers 07 on Sunday at Stadion Oberwerth.
FV Engers are in the fifth tier of German football in the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz/Saar, whereas Eintracht finished third in the Bundesliga in 2024-25 and qualified for the Champions League.
Match preview
The home side have begun their league season with one win and one loss, with their last game a 2-0 victory against Auersmacher on August 9.
That clean sheet was their first in their past 10 matches in all competitions, and marked the 13th consecutive game that they managed to score at least one goal in.
Engers have competed in the DFB-Pokal twice, with the club eliminated in the first round by VfL Bochum in 2020-21 and in the first round by Arminia Bielefeld in 2022-23.
Head coach Julian Feit will have been delighted by his side's win last time out considering they ended a streak of three consecutive losses, but it was just their second triumph in nine fixtures.
Engers' win against Auersmacher was their first in five outings at home, a period in which they were beaten three times.
Eintracht's final points total of 60 was 13 more than they accumulated in 2023-24, and their third-placed finish was their highest placement since 2011-12, when they finished second.
The Eagles were strong at both ends of the pitch in the league, with their tallies of 68 goals scored and 46 conceded seeing them end the campaign as the top flight's fourth-best offensive and fifth-best defensive side.
Boss Dino Toppmoller's side were beaten 2-0 by RB Leipzig in the round of 16 in December 2024 in the DFB-Pokal, and they finished as runners-up as recently as 2022-23.
Eintracht Frankurt's pre-season has been mixed given they have won three, drawn two and lost one of their six friendlies, emerging as victors once in their past four.
The visitors were winless in four of their final five matches on their travels in 2024-25, settling for stalemates on three occasions.

Team News
Engers goalkeeper Franjo Serdarusi is likely to be deployed behind a back three featuring David Eberhardt, Mattis Thewalt and Max Schmitten.
Serkan Gocer, Marcel Stieffenhofer and Kevin Lahn could be selected as a midfield trio behind forwards Hasan Kesikci and Justin Willma.
As for Eintracht Frankfurt, with attacker Omar Mamoush having left for Manchester City in January and striker Hugo Ekitike for Liverpool in the summer, expect centre-forward Jonathan Burkardt to be flanked by Ansgar Knauff and Jean-Matteo Bahoya.
Hugo Larsson was arguably the club's best midfielder in 2024-25, and he could be utilised alongside Mario Gotze and Fares Chaibi.
Shot-stopper Kevin Trapp has been linked with a move to Paris FC, but Toppmoller confirmed that he is available for selection on Sunday.
FV Engers 07 possible starting lineup:
Serdarusic; Eberhardt, Thewalt, Schmitten; Semchuk, Gocer, Lahn, Stieffenhofer, Meinert; Kesikci, Willma
Eintracht Frankfurt possible starting lineup:
Trapp; Kristensen, Koch, Collins, Theate; Chaibi, Larsson, Gotze; Knauff, Burkardt, Bahoya
We say: FV Engers 07 0-4 Eintracht Frankfurt
Despite losing key attackers in recent months, Eintracht Frankfurt still possess immense quality throughout their team.
FV Engers will try to defend their penalty area as best they can on the weekend, but they should not be expected to come out on top against their Bundesliga opponents.
