Why you should bet on the underdogs on final Premier League weekend

The 2018-19 Premier League campaign comes to a conclusion on Sunday afternoon, and there is value in betting on a number of surprise results.

The 2018-19 Premier League campaign reaches a conclusion this weekend, and we still do not know who will be lifting the top-flight trophy come Sunday afternoon. Manchester City and Liverpool are both in contention, with Man City taking on Brighton & Hove Albion on the South coast and Liverpool playing host to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield. You are only going to get short betting odds for either team to prevail in those fixtures, but that does not mean that you will not get value elsewhere. There are plenty of clubs with relatively little to play or with their ambitions lying elsewhere, and it gives punters an opportunity to end the season making a significant profit.

When considering your Premier League bets this weekend, you will naturally take an interest in each of Chelsea and Arsenal. Both clubs have had to deal with exhausting Europa League schedules since September and there have been signs that it has taken its toll. Chelsea have played a few more fixtures than their London rivals and regardless of whether they reach the Europa League final, Maurizio Sarri will be tempted to rest a number of his over-worked players against Leicester City. The Foxes are currently playing well enough to trouble anyone at the King Power Stadium, but a weakened Chelsea team would have to perform well in order to avoid defeat in the East Midlands. The Foxes are available at betting odds of 5/2 and it is an absolute no-brainer to go with Brendan Rodgers's team.

The same theory applies with Arsenal's fixture at Burnley. The Gunners will have hoped to have earned a place in the Europa League final when preparing for the trip to Turf Moor, but Unai Emery may still feel prepared to rest several of his players regardless of an extra game being added to their schedule. Burnley will also be motivated to end a mixed season with another positive result having enjoyed a brilliant second half of the campaign. The Clarets are available at over 2/1 and there is very little reason why you shouldn't be pairing Sean Dyche's team in a double with Leicester.

You should also not rule out betting on Everton to get something from their trip to Tottenham Hotspur. The Toffees can no longer secure European football for next season, but Marco Silva will be keen for his talented squad to make a statement. They will be facing a Spurs side who will be without Juan Foyth and Son Heung-min after their dismissals against Bournemouth and a team who have looked tired for a number of weeks. Mauricio Pochettino's men take on Ajax in the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday night, while Everton would have had five extra days of preparation. You can currently get Everton at betting odds of 7/2, and there is definite value in making a small bet.

Brighton are available at 22/1 to beat Man City and Wolves can be had at 12/1 to overcome Liverpool if you are feeling really ambitious ahead of the weekend's games, but taking a chance of Leicester, Burnley and Everton - either in single bets, a double or a treble - seems the way to go.
