Manchester United fans have been left a little frustrated by their lack of progress in the transfer window. It looked as though the Reds were keen to get things done early with the arrival of Dan James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Since then it's been story after story of journalists stirring the pot only to find no deal is in place.
The record-breaking transfer of Harry Maguire to the club has certainly given fans more hope, but with a week to go until the season starts and a little less until the transfer window closes, has the club done enough to comfortably secure a top-four place?
The bookies are backing Frank Lampard's Chelsea ahead of United, with the Northern side being priced at 11/10 with those featured on topbettingwebsites.co.uk.
Of course, Manchester City and Liverpool are hotly tipped at 1/80 and 1/14 respectively, but there was real hope that under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer they can at least kick on and overtake Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal.
To do that, work is required. Wan-Bissaka seems a shrewd signing at right-back and it's undoubted that Maguire adds solidity to what was a shaky back four last term. Alongside Victor Lindelof they will now be difficult to break down and it's likely that Jose Mourinho will be looking on with envy, after missing out on a centre-back last summer.
Where they have yet to improve is going forward and in the heart of the midfield. It is believed that a deal with Juventus to swap Romelu Lukaku and Paolo Dybala is close, with United doing all they can to persuade the Argentine to make the move to Old Trafford.
Should that go through, fans can probably feel satisfied that they have done enough to push forward, particularly if Paul Pogba can link up with Dybala as he did while playing in Turin together.
That could be the major difference in catapulting United back towards being a top side.
As it stands Marcus Rashford has no real competition leading the line, while they could also miss Ander Herrera's energy and battle in the heart of the midfield.
Bruno Fernandes has been hotly linked with the club but nothing has really stuck as yet. It is believed Tottenham are also interested in the player. Solskjaer is desperate to land the Sporting star, but with £80m spent on Maguire and £45m on Wan-Bissaka, Ed Woodwood could start to be tightening the bolts on the war chest.
Defensively, United have certainly delivered when it comes to tightening up. In De Gea they have a world-class goalkeeper and they now have some real quality at the back.
Where the goals and creativity will come from is still causing issues though, and if Dybala doesn't come off then fans - and indeed Solskjaer - will be incredibly disappointed.
While Chelsea are still struggling for a top-class goalscorer, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham have all proven that it can make a real difference. Those are four sides United must surpass if they're going to make the top four come May 2019.
