There is nothing more guaranteed to make you look foolish than making sports predictions over the long term. Just ask all the experts and pundits who assured us that Brazil would win the World Cup for evidence on that one. But making predictions can be fun, particularly as one year comes to an end and another one approaches. Below we have tried to create five bold predictions for sports in 2023, adding some current odds to show their likelihood. Of course, rather than blindly making guesses, we have tried to argue our reasoning behind them. So take a look at our five brave predictions, and see if you agree.

Liverpool Beat the Odds by Re-Entering the Title Race
On the resumption of the Premier League after the World Cup, Liverpool are 15 points behind leaders Arsenal, and 10 behind bitter rivals Man City. It might seem like there is little chance for Klopp's men to re-enter the title debate. However, there are two reasons why we believe they could actually surprise. First, they were in a similar position last season before taking Man City all the way. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, Liverpool sent fewer players to the World Cup than any other member of the Big 6. For comparison, Liverpool only sent seven players to Qatar – Manchester City sent 16. This will ensure that Jurgen Klopp has a fresher squad in the coming months. Odds of 40/1 for the Reds to win the title ensure it's a longshot, but you can grab sports betting promos alongside online casino bonuses on sites like Casino.co.uk to help mitigate any risk. Rory McIlroy Finally Wins Another Major
Of all the world's best golfers, Rory McIlroy has always stood out as the most typical 'confidence player'. By that, we mean McIlroy thrives when his head is in the right place, but he can fall apart when he begins to overthink. Lately, however, McIlroy seems to be in the form of his life, regaining the world number one spot and playing with a zen-like attitude that really suits his game. It's now eight years since he won a Major, but he can definitely break that duck in 2023. Most bookies put him at 10/1 or over to win any of the four big ones. He locks locked in.
Andy Murray Wins on the ATP Tour
Sir Andrew Murray has had a tumultuous few years due to injury, dropping out of the elite end of tennis. Murray fell outside of the world's top 500 in 2019, such was his lack of playing time. It's been a long road, but he has recently just clawed his way back into the world's top 50. That achievement, considering Murray's injuries, should be better recognised by the media. He has odds of around 100/1 to win the next Major, the Australian Open. We don't think that is too likely, but the wily Murray can still nab a win on the ATP Tour in 2023, providing his body doesn't give in. We would love to see him do it.
The Unluckiest City In US Sports Finally Has Something to Cheer
The Buffalo Bills are considered the Jimmy White of American football. By referencing the snooker legend, we mean that, like The Whirlwind, the Bills had a shocking run of consecutive (4) Super Bowl appearances without a victory. While that's not quite at White's level, the Bills – and the city of Buffalo particularly – are often considered the unluckiest in the United States. This time around, however, the Bills look like the best team in NFL, and they will surely go deep into the Playoffs in January. Can they finally end the hoodoo at Super Bowl LVII in February? 4/1 odds puts them as favourites.
Galopin Des Champs Wins the Cheltenham Gold Cup
The best performance at Cheltenham 2022 was, ironically, a defeat. The heavyweight battle in the Turners' Novice Chase between Galopin Des Champs and Bob Olinger saw the former leave his opponent for dust, then somehow stumble on the final fence to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Nonetheless, the performance was so outstanding, so electric, that bookmakers said they have a future Gold Cup winner in Galopin Des Champs. Odds of 11/4 in the ante-post markets smacks of confidence. His time is nigh.
