5 things we learned from the Ladbrokes Premiership

Rangers still need some inspiration while Craig Levein is a self-confessed "idiot".

Celtic moved to within a point of Ladbrokes Premiership leaders Hearts thanks to a 5-0 victory over the Edinburgh side while there were some major results near the bottom of the table.

Here are five things we learned from the latest weekend of Scottish action.

Rangers need to rediscover their creativity

Steven Gerrard's Rangers triumphed 2-0 over St Mirren but their 80th-minute opener came from an overhit cross from Daniel Candeias. Until that point the Light Blues had again looked short on inspiration after netting just once in their previous three matches.

Craig Levein is an "idiot"

According to the Hearts boss himself after his tactics backfired at Celtic Park. When asked for his thoughts, Levein said: "The manager is an idiot. I thought with all the high-profile games we have had, our energy levels were beginning to wane. I made the decision to try to sit in, frustrate Celtic and hit them on the counter-attack but I got that one wrong, eh?"

Scottish football has a major security issue

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos became the latest player to be hit by a coin as he celebrated his goal in Paisley. Three assistant referees and Neil Lennon had previously been struck in recent weeks while an Aberdeen fan and a Hibernian supporter were arrested over alleged assaults on Hearts players.

David Turnbull can more than handle the step up

The 19-year-old Motherwell midfielder is clearly talented and he has also proved he can step up to the plate in times of need. Turnbull struck from 30 yards to clinch a 1-0 win over Dundee days after his goal set Well up for victory at St Mirren. The two wins ensured Motherwell moved seven points clear of danger.

We might have a two-way battle for relegation

It was not only Motherwell who moved away from trouble. Hamilton's win over Livingston saw them move seven points above Dundee. The Tayside club and St Mirren meet next week in a crunch game, but with only seven points between them they both look like they will continue to struggle through to the winter break.
