Twente deducted three points

Eredivisie club FC Twente have been deducted three points for failing to meet financial targets.

Twente, who are currently under the threat of bankruptcy, were given a recovery plan by the Dutch Football Association.

The club has confirmed that it will not be appealing the decision.

The sanction has seen Alfred Schreuder's side slip down to ninth place in the table.

"We know that we are going through a tough financial time with the club but it is very unpleasant to be confronted with this punishment," Schreuder is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"The players have been informed about the situation. We have to accept it and continue to fight as a team. We owe it to ourselves and certainly to the supporters."

Twente return to action on Friday when they make the trip to Willem II in the league.
