Middlesbrough beat Shrewsbury Town 1-0 at the Riverside in the third round of the FA Cup.

Middlesbrough have progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup following a 1-0 win over Graham Turner's Shrews at the Riverside Stadium this afternoon.

Tony Mowbray's side took until the final five minutes of the first half to create their first clear chance of the game. Midfielder Malaury Martin found forward Martin Emnes inside the six-yard box from the left, allowing the Dutch striker to stab the ball into the back of the net from close range.

Boro began the second half on the attack, with Martin's shot from a Joe Bennett free kick deflecting off Blues defender Ian Sharps. The Frenchman came close again within a matter of seconds, but sent his shot from distance wide of the mark.

Midfielder Kevin Thompson was booked for unsporting behaviour for a late challenge on the visitors' Matthew Richards with five minutes to go, but the Championship outfit held on to their one-goal win.
