Johnny Heitinga says that he will fight for his starting place at Everton.

Everton defender Johnny Heitinga is remaining positive despite his failure to start in any of the club's matches this season.

The Dutchman was named as the Toffees Player of the Year last season but has found his playing time limited so far in the current campaign.

The centre-back, who is currently away on international duty, insists that he will fight for his place at Goodison Park and also revealed that Everton turned down offers in the summer for him.

"I have had better days and I feel happier to be with the Dutch national team," said Heitinga.

"This is apparently the tough phase I have to get through every year. In the previous two seasons I also barely played in the first games but quickly I became a starter and last year even player of the season."

"Even now I expect a starting position soon. Moyes had a decision to make. And I understand he wouldn't change after the wins over Manchester United and Aston Villa. But the Everton board blocked transfers to Fenerbahce and more recently Fiorentina and that says everything for me."

Heitinga has 80 caps for the Netherlands.
