Michel Platini admits that there is a possibility of the Europa League being scrapped in favour of a bigger Champions League.

UEFA president Michel Platini has revealed talks regarding the possibility of scrapping the Europa League have taken place.

Recent reports had claimed that the governing body were considering doing away with the competition and instead extending the Champions League to incorporate more teams.

While insisting that nothing has been decided, Platini admitted that it is under serious consideration.

"There is an ongoing debate to determine what form the European competitions will have between 2015 and 2018," he told Ouest-France.

"We're discussing it, we will make a decision in 2014. Nothing is decided yet."

The tournament was rebranded the Europa League in 2009 following a long stint known as the UEFA Cup.
