UEFA to use goalline tech at Euro 2016

UEFA has approved the use of goalline technology at the Euro 2016 finals and in the Champions League from next season's playoff stage.

In a statement on its website, European football's governing body confirmed the news and also said that the technology would be considered in the Europa League from the 2017-18 season onwards.

Goalline technology is currently used in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1.

UEFA's decision comes after its executive committee's first meeting of the year. They also announced that they will back Gianni Infantino for the FIFA presidency and not hold a presidential election themselves until current chief Michel Platini's appeal against his eight-year ban from all football activity is complete.
