Jamie Vardy: 'England better prepared for World Cup than Euro 2016'

Vardy: 'England are better prepared'

England forward Jamie Vardy claims that his teammates are better prepared for the World Cup in Russia than they were when competing in France at Euro 2016.

England forward Jamie Vardy has insisted that the Three Lions are better prepared for the World Cup in Russia compared to when the country competed in Euro 2016.

The Three Lions were infamously knocked out in France at the hands of Iceland in the round of 16, leading then-boss Roy Hodgson to depart from his position as manager after a disastrous campaign two years ago.

"The Euros was a low for English football. We know that. But I don't think we were prepared for every eventuality in 2016," Vardy told reporters ahead of England's looming World Cup campaign.

"When we went a goal behind against Iceland, we didn't know what to do. A lot of us just expected to win. We weren't prepared for the game – and it backfired.

"We just didn't know what to do to get back in the game when we were behind because we just hadn't planned for it.

"It's different now. I think if you asked every single player what the difference is, they would say that we are prepared as a team for every scenario. We know what we have got to do."

England open their Group G campaign on Monday, June 18 against Tunisia at the Volgograd Arena.
