Andros Townsend amazed by England "dream"

Townsend amazed by England "dream"

Andros Townsend has expressed his shock after representing England twice in the past week but has admitted that he is relishing the future.

The Tottenham Hotspur winger made a scoring debut in the 4-1 win over Montenegro on Friday, before helping the Three Lions finish top of Group H on Tuesday thanks to a 2-0 victory over Poland at Wembley.

Townsend has earned mass plaudits from players, coaches and fans alike following his first two caps and says that he is in dreamland.

"At the start of the season I could never have dreamed this, playing for my club regularly and getting my first two caps for England," Townsend told the press. "It's been a dream come true really, but I can't let it get to my head, I've got to keep playing well and keep my head down.

"If I want to be on that plane I've got to keep playing well for Tottenham and if I'm selected again I've got to keep playing well for my country.

"It's not going to be easy. I've got a tough six months ahead, competing with some top players for the right wing position at Spurs. I've got a tough year in front of me, but I'm relishing it."

Townsend will be in action for Spurs at the weekend when they travel to Aston Villa.
