England striker Daniel Sturridge has stated his belief that international teammate Danny Welbeck deserves more recognition for his role in the team.
The pair impressed in attack during England's 2-1 defeat to Italy in their opening match at the World Cup in Manaus.
However, Sturridge believes that Welbeck has been harshly treated by his critics.
"I've grown up with Welbs and I think he's unbelievably talented, he doesn't get the credit he deserves," Sturridge told the FA's official website.
"We've been in similar situations, both wanting to play centrally but being on the wing. Mentally, it plays with you sometimes. You're not clear-minded on how to perform.
"But when we play for England, we're fluid and try and help each other out as much as possible. He was my strike partner in the Under-21s, he makes my job easier as well. He's my boy."
England are back in action on Thursday when they face Uruguay.
