Roy Hodgson not concerned by Wayne Rooney form

Hodgson: 'No concerns over Rooney'

England manager Roy Hodgson has insisted that he has no concerns over Wayne Rooney's current form ahead of the World Cup.

Rooney was a peripheral figure for the majority of England's 3-0 victory over Peru on Friday night, but Hodgson is confident that the Manchester United forward will be ready to play a key role in Brazil.

When asked if he thought Rooney needed more minutes on the pitch to find his form, the 66-year-old told reporters: "No, because I don't have to accept those evaluations. We think we know where he is and how his fitness is progressing.

"I don't have any fears in that respect and you saw that Wayne's attitude and commitment is first class, even in a game of this nature, and he's got two more weeks to keep that going."

Rooney had not played for a month due to a groin problem before starting against Peru.
