USA chiefs 'happy to let Jurgen Klinsmann take on England job'

A report claims that Jurgen Klinsmann will be given the green light to join England by USA chiefs, who are happy to see him depart his position.

USA soccer chiefs will reportedly not stand in boss Jurgen Klinsmann's way if he decides to take on the England job.

It was claimed by Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff on Friday that the 51-year-old had already opened talks with the Three Lions over succeeding Roy Hodgson.

Klinsmann remains under contract with the United States until the end of the next World Cup but, according to The Mirror, he has been given the green light to step down from his current position.

The bookmakers have made the former Germany head coach the favourite to replace Hodgson, who was quick to jump ship following England's last-16 loss to minnows Iceland at Euro 2016 last month.

A row between Team USA chief Sunil Gulati and Klinsmann is said to be behind the national side's reluctance to stop their manager departing, with the added bonus of a hefty compensation deal with the English FA.

Bournemouth's Eddie Howe is also thought to have been lined up for talks, having emerged from the pack of a handful of names to have been touted with the vacant position.
