Ryan Shawcross aiming to "cement" place in England squad

Shawcross aiming to "cement" England slot

Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross has revealed that he is keen to become a permanent part of the England squad.

The 25-year-old travelled to St George's Park this morning to join up with his international colleagues ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland.

Now that he is in the England setup for the second time in his career, Shawcross is hoping that he will now be a regular part of Roy Hodgson's thinking.

"It will be a great experience for me," he told the club's official website. "Obviously, I have been in the squad before, but now I want to cement my place.

"There are a lot of good players in and around the squad, but hopefully if I can go there and do well, I will be able to stay in the squad."

Shawcross was last called up in February 2010 for a match against Egypt.
