Jamie Redknapp critical of Roy Hodgson's timing of substitutions

Redknapp critical of Hodgson's timing of subs

Jamie Redknapp believes that England manager Roy Hodgson will be "kicking himself" for his failure to introduce his substitutions before Montenegro equalised in their 1-1 draw on Tuesday night.

Despite leading 1-0 through Wayne Rooney, the Three Lions were under pressure for large portions of the second before Dejan Damjanovic levelled the scores up on 77 minutes, and Redknapp thinks that Hodgson was too inactive on the touchline.

"He waited for them to score before changing it up. You sense it as a player when the game is turning against you and you can't stem the tide," he wrote in his column in the Daily Mail.

"I can imagine Roy Hodgson is kicking himself for not making a change. Their manager made bold changes and Roy will feel he acted too late. It was 1-1 before he brought on his first substitute."

The Podgorica stalemate leaves Hodgson's side two points adrift of the Montenegrins, who lead Group H, in their World Cup qualifying campaign.
