Steven Gerrard: 'St George's Park can be boring for players'

Steven Gerrard admits that England's multi-million pound St George's Park can be quite "boring" for players.

Former England captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that the multi-million pound facility designed for the national side can be quite "boring" for players.

The Football Association spent £105m to develop the centre, which includes a replica of the Wembley pitch, as well as an altitude chamber.

However, Gerrard, who retired from international duty after the 2014 World Cup, believes that changes need to be made to keep the players occupied away from the pitch.

In an interview with Rio Ferdinand for BT Sport, Gerrard said: "It's an unbelievable site but they need to be a bit more realistic around it. They need to make it a little bit friendlier for the players.

"It's a top place to train and prepare but away from training pitch and the games, it can be boring. We need to create that atmosphere where England players are desperate to get away and do well."

Gerrard, who will join MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy next month following a 17-year career at Liverpool, was captain of his country for two years.
