Gary Cahill: 'Experience key to England revival'

England defender Gary Cahill admits that he and his teammates have "a lot of unfinished business" on the international stage following last year's dismal World Cup.

Gary Cahill is confident that England are heading in the "right direction" after going the entire campaign without defeat.

The Three Lions edged out Slovenia 3-2 on Sunday evening to maintain their impressive recent record, which stretches back to last year's World Cup.

Despite failing to register a win in international football's showpiece competition 12 months ago, Cahill believes that there is still plenty to be positive about.

"You don't want to talk obviously too much about the future but it's going in the right direction," he is quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

"Everyone is getting more experience, the younger players have gained experience of the Premier League, have another year under their belt, more England caps.

"Experience is key I think going into the tournament and a lot of unfinished business from the summer and something personally I can't wait to come around. I'm sure everyone feels the same way."

Cahill has played in all six of England's Euro 2016 qualifying fixtures to date.
