Live Commentary: Elche 0-1 Getafe - as it happened

Relive Sports Mole's live commentary as Getafe bag an 85th-minute winner to beat Elche and move 10 points clear of danger.

Fredy Hinestroza grabbed an 85th-minute winner as Getafe beat Elche 1-0 to move 10 points clear of the relegation zone in La Liga.

Elche enjoyed an abundance of possession in the first half but struggled in the final third, with Faycal Fajr going closest to breaking the deadlock when his volley came back off the crossbar.

The hosts, who sit three points above the drop zone themselves, were made rue those chances as Hinestroza guided a fine header past Przemyslaw Tyton with five minutes left.

Below, relive the drama with our live text commentary.

Hola amigos and welcome to our live text commentary of Getafe's trip to relegation-threatened Elche. I'm Shane and I'll be guiding you through all of the action as the hosts look to move SIX points clear of the danger zone! What a big night it could be for Elche's season. Both teams infact.

Fortunately for Fran Escriba's side, who sit 16th in La Liga, all four of the teams below them - Deportivo, Granada, Cordoba & Almeria - all dropped points. Big, big chance here tonight against a Getafe team who, despite winning their last game, only sit seven points clear of danger themselves.

Like watching a fat man through binoculars, there's a bit to look at this evening but let's see how both teams line up first, shall we? Okay.

ELCHE XI: Tyton; Suarez, Roco, Lomban, Domingo, Gonzalez, Rodrigues, Fajr, Pasalic, Herrera, Jonathas

GETAFE XI: Guaita, Alexis, Velázquez, Lacen, Álvaro, Sarabia, D. Castro, Escudero, J. Rodríguez, Freddy y Vigaray

ELCHE SUBS: Yague, Angel, Albacar, Coro, Aaron, V Rodriguez, Giminez

GETAFE SUBS: Lopez, Naldo, Lago, Pedro Leon, Selma, Diawara, Buendia

No messing from Elche boss Fran Escriba, who makes SIX changes to his team from the 1-1 draw with Espanyol. Enzo Roco, Garry Rodrigues, Christian Herrera, Domino Cisma, Gonzalez and Mario Pasalic all come into the side. There's a bloke who doesn't know his best team - or maybe what he thought was his best team just isn't good enough, which might be accurate considering they're nearing relegation.

Considerably less messing from Pablo Franco Martin, who makes just the one change from the 2-1 win over Deportivo as Fredy Hinestroz comes into the team. And that's your lot!

Who can both sides look to for a bit of inspiration this evening then? Let's have a look sure.

For Elche, it has to be the one and only Jonathas, who has netted nine La Liga goals for the club this season. If they do stay up, and they very well might, then the towering striker will have a big say in preserving their top-flight status.

And Getafe? Ah I was hoping you'd ask, because their go-to-guy this season is appears to be Alvaro Vaszquez, who has netted seven times - three more than their second leading scorer Abdoul Yoda. Score more goals he must.

Right, we're about five minutes from kickoff so let's get a prediction wrong, shall we? Alright, and I'm backing 2-1 Elche tonight. I think they're due a win, and I reckon Getafe's seven-point cushion from safety will have left them feeling a little complacent before BANG, they're back in the dogfight. Let's go.

KICKOFF!!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we're off, my friends. Getafe get us underway. Big game here. Let's go.

Very little to report in the first few minutes. Both sides just getting a good feel for each other it seems. Elche bossing possession in the early stages, with big striker Jonathas always providing a physical challenge up front.

Five minutes in and the most interesting thing so far has been Alexis's hair. I can't figure out if it's the worst or best hairstyle I've ever seen. It's kinda skinhead meet samurai.

Getafe get in behind Elche's rearguard for the first time as Alvaro runs on to a decent ball from midfield, but the striker inexplicably lets the ball run out for a goal kick after a shocking bit of control it must be said. My grandmother, who's dead, and has no feet, could've trapped that ball.

SAVE! Finally we've seen a goalkeeper tested, and it's Getafe keeper as Vicente Guaita make a smart save to deny Garry Rodrigues's free kick. Decent effort and a decent save.

Elche well in control by way of possession, but they're struggling to get the ball up to big man Jonathas, who won the free kick that led to Fajr's earlier free kick, but that's about all we've seen from him.

CHANCE! Big, big chance for Elche, and it's Jonathas, who uses his strength to hold off a few challenges before fashioning a clear sight at goal but he drags a left-footed shot horribly wide of the mark. Is that why he only has nine goals this season? Should've done better.

CHANCE! This is developing into quite a good game, and it's Getafe who should've gone ahead now as Fredy Hinestroza somehow finds himself with an acre of space down Elche's left, before cutting inside Damian Suarez with a tidy Ronaldo chop and firing straight at Tyton. Like Jonathas, probably should've done better.

SHOT! It's Elche's turn to try open the scoring as the lively Garry Rodrigues cuts inside his marker and drills a shot at the near post, but it's ripples the side-netting. Guaita had it covered.

What a horrendous cross this is, as Pablo Sarabia's delivery ends up sailing over the head of about five Getafe players and trickles out near the corner flag. Augusta Georgia is that way pal.

Incidentally, this one ended 0-0 the last time both these sides met, but I'm hopeful we'll see a goal or two tonight. It's been a decent first 25 minutes or so.

SHOT! Would've been a fine goal, after Jonathas's chest tee'd up Cristian Herrera for a volley outside the box, but his execution is wayward and it sails well over the bar. Bizarrely, the duo celebrated the shot with a hug. I've never seen that before.

Roughly 15 minutes left until the break then and we're not closer to knowing who's going to win this and boost their survival prospects. Elche probably just shading it in terms of chances and possession, but still 0-0. Decent game so far.

OFF THE BAR! So unlucky for Elche, who use the width of the pitch brilliantly with an excellent attacking move. The ball eventually drops to Fajr on the edge of the box as the schemer volleys against the crossbar. Guaita was beaten all ends up.

It was actually a deflection off our favourite samurai/skinhead Alexis, who threw his body in the line of fire to deflect Fajr's effort against the woodwork.

CLOSE! Faycal Fajr looks quite a decent player, and he goes so close to what would've been a wonder goal with an audacious free kick that glides just wide of Guaita's near post. Elche well on top.

BOOKING: We've seen our first booking of the night as Jonathas goes into the book for a bit of dissent. Looked fairly harsh to me.

HALF TIME: ELCHE 0-0 GETAFE

Well, that's all she wrote in that half, my friends. Still level, though Elche have had by far the better chances in a half that saw them dominate but fail to make the most of their opportunities.

First, Jonathas used his beastly strength to shrug off a few challenges before getting into a really good position and dragging his shot wide. Fredy Hinestroza went down the other end and fired straight at Tyton in a chance that he really should've done better with. It was one-way traffic from there, though, as Faycal Fajr tormented Getafe's defence and hit the crossbar after Alexis deflected his volley on to the woodwork and that, more or less, is the story so far my friends.

I'm going to get a glass of Ribena and pretend it's sangria but meet me back here in a few minutes for the remainder of what has been quite a decent game.

RESTART! Ah, what a lovely, refreshing glass of R̶i̶b̶e̶n̶a̶ Sangria that was, and both sets of players look replenished as Elche get us underway once more. Let's go. Big 45 minutes for both these teams' seasons.

SAVE! Elche start this half as strong as they ended it because Domingo forces Guaita to tip over his looping header following Fajr's perfect free kick. I'm telling you that if Elche do get relegated, then Fajr isn't going with them because he's looked a fine player tonight.

OUCH! This looked nasty for Fredy Hinestroza, who goes to ground after slipping very awkwardly on his ankle. He's on his feet, being treated by physios, but I'm not sure he can continue. On a side note, why do physios in Spain wear suits and the ones in England wear tracksuits?

Okay Fredy Hinestroza is indeed back on the field, which shows what I know about injuries. Good to see him back because he has looked like one of Getafe's better players tonight.

Referee is having a bit of a mare here it has to be said. Fredy has just literally pushed Garry Rodrigues off the ball, but it was a fair challenge according to this space cadet.

We've reached the hour mark then and, well, we STILL don't really know who's going to win this. Just a reminder that victory for Elche would see them move six points clear of danger, while a win for Getafe would see them move 10 points clear of the drop zone. The draw obviously suits Getafe a little more than Elche, but I expect to see more urgency from the hosts soon.

CHANCE! This may not have looked like a chance but it certainly was. Garry Rodrigues races on to Jonathas's long ball and he gets to it before Alexis, but with Cristian Herrera in an acre of space in the middle of the field, Rodrigues plays him in but the pass is far too weak and it gets mopped up then. Final ball needs to be better.

BOOKING: Sergio Escudero becomes fourth man to be booked tonight - second for Getafe - after cynically hauling down Rodrigues. Right decision.

We've seen the last of Escudero, as the Getafe doctors do the universal gesture for a substitution after treating the right-back for what looks like a hamstring injury.

DOUBLE SUB: One substitution apiece now as Victor Rodriguez replaces Cristian Herrera, who has literally done nothing all night, while Escudero makes way for Roberto Lago.

SUB: Another sub now as Pedro Leon comes on for Alvaro Vazquez who, again, has done nothing. Good riddance.

Okay I don't mean to alarm anybody, but there's only 15 minutes and, to me, it seems like neither side is really bothered here. It's bizarre. It has an end-to-season feel to it, but neither of these teams are finished by a long shot because both could still be relegated. What are they playing at?

Jonathas is walking a tightrope here. He's already been booked and he has just conceded a foul for pulling back Medhi Lacen. Fortunately he's about 6'7 and the ref hasn't got the minerals to book him again.

Right there's about eight minutes of normal time left in this one and Getafe have a rare corner. Let's see what it brings.

GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Elche 0-1 Getafe (Fredy Hinestroza)

Absolute heartbreak for Elche as Hinestroza brilliantly heads Pedro Leon's corner past Tytan with five minutes left. The lack of urgency from Elche in this second half has been astounding and, well, this is the penalty.

PENALTY APPEAL: Elche fans want a penalty after Jonathas goes tumbling in the box, but the players, including Jonathas, aren't that bothered and the referee waves play-on.

CHANCE! It could, and should, be all over, as Pedro Leon runs clean through with Tytan but, instead of simply slotting past him, tries the audacious lob and his effort bounces wide. Poor.

There were four minutes added on, by the way, so three more minutes for Elche to snatch a deserved point.

CHANCE! Oh god. If Elche get a draw here then Pedro Leon will be lynched because he's just missed ANOTHER one-on-one with Tytan, firing straight at the big Pole. Let's hope for his sake that Getafe hold on.

FULL TIME: ELCHE 0-1 GETAFE

Well, that's all she wrote in this game, my friends.

Elche remain three points clear of danger, while Getafe effectively secure their top-flight status for another season by moving 10 points clear! They owe the win to Fredy Hinestroza, who headed an 85th-minute winner past Tyton to make Elche rue their first-half misses.

Anywho, that's all we've got time for tonight, my friends. Thanks for joining our live text commentary and we'll see you again!
