Yussuf Poulsen and Christian Eriksen are on target as Denmark beat fellow World Cup hopefuls Mexico in their final warm-up game ahead of the trip to Russia.

Second-half goals from Yussuf Poulsen and Tottenham Hotspur's Christian Eriksen have helped Denmark end their World Cup warm-up campaign with a 2-0 win over fellow Russia-bound side Mexico at the Brondby Stadium.

Eriksen made a nuisance of himself in the opposition's half all evening and he almost broke the deadlock with just two minutes played when he diverted Nicolai Jorgensen's early free kick narrowly wide of the far post.

Thomas Delaney was next to try his luck during a lively opening period for the hosts, getting away from his marker and unleashing a curling effort that stung the palms of Guillermo Ochoa in the 12th minute.

Mexico's best chance to open the scoring came on the half-hour mark as Jesus Manuel Corona latched on to a corner and shot first time, forcing a good save out of Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

A well-worked corner at the other end carved out another chance for Eriksen just before half time, but the Spurs man fired his shot wide from an acute angle and the two sides headed into the break level.

Substitute Martin Braithwaite proved a livewire for the Danes early in the second period following his introduction and two of his crosses into the box almost led to goals, first via Kasper Dolberg and then through Delaney, neither of whom could find the target.

Mexico had the ball in the net on the hour mark after Giovani dos Santos's cross was nodded over the line by Hugo Ayala, but the goal was ruled out due to the Los Angeles Galaxy man running the ball out of play before swinging in his delivery.

Poulsen broke the deadlock around 10 minutes later with a screamer from the edge of the box that flew into the top corner, leaving Ochoa swiping helplessly at air.

Just three minutes later, the Danes were two to the good as Eriksen latched on to a through-pass and placed the ball beyond the Mexican goalkeeper to put the hosts out of sight.

Mexico might have made a fight of it if top goalscorer Javier Hernandez had found the net shortly after his introduction, but the striker could only crash his shot against the post when the ball fell kindly for him in the box in the closing stages.

Denmark are up against Peru, France and Australia in the group stage at the World Cup, while Mexico will take on Germany, Sweden and South Korea.
