Hello, and welcome to Sports Mole's live commentary of the Championship play-off final, as Crystal Palace and Watford battle it out for promotion to the Premier League.

TEAM NEWS

Crystal Palace: Speroni; Ward, Gabbidon, Delaney, Moxey; Dikgacoi, Jedinak; Zaha, Garvan, Williams; Wilbraham

Watford: Almunia; Doyley, Ekstrand, Cassetti; Anya, Chalobah, Hogg, Pudil; Abdi; Deeney, Vydra

Wilfried Zaha starts in what will be his final game for Crystal Palace, before he moves to Premier League champions Manchester United. Aaron Wilbraham continues to deputise for the injured Glenn Murray upfront, as Ian Holloway names the same starting line-up that won 2-0 away at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Meanwhile, Watford boss Gianfranco Zola makes one change to his team, with Jonathan Hogg replacing Cristian Battocchio in midfield.

Today's match promises to be entertaining, as Crystal Palace and Watford are the Championship's top scorers this season. Watford lead the way with a staggering 88 goals after the 46 league games and the two play-off semi-finals, while Palace have scored 75 in the same number of games.

Ian Holloway is currently on the Wembley pitch sipping a cup of tea and looking very calm as the fans filter into the stadium. This is Holloway's third Championship play-off final in four years. In 2010, his Blackpool side beat Cardiff 3-2 to reach the Premier League for the first time in the club's history. Last season, he led Blackpool back to Wembley, but they lost 2-1 to West Ham United.

This is Gianfranco Zola's first play-off final in his first season with the Hornets.

Watford finished third in the Championship and lost out to Hull City on the final day of the season in the race for promotion. Crystal Palace, meanwhile, finished in fifth place - their highest finish in five years.

Watford have had a taste of Premier League football before, with their most recent stint in the top flight in the 2006-2007 season, but the team finished bottom after only winning five league games. Crystal Palace's last spell in the top flight was during the 2004-2005 season. Like Watford, they lasted just one season.

Both teams are warming up in the Wembley sun at the moment, as kick-off is now just 20 minutes away!

Watford's starting line-up contains a staggering seven loan players, with Manuel Almunia, Lloyd Doyley, Jonathan Hogg and Troy Deeney the only players with full-time contracts at the club.

Among today's spectators are Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho and Udinese coach Francesco Guidolin.

Watford pose a significant goal threat today with their potent strike force. Matej Vydra has scored 22 league goals for the Hornets this season, while Troy Deeney has scored 20 goals. Injured Glenn Murray is the Championship's top scorer this season with 29 goals, so Wilfried Zaha and Aaron Wilbraham will have to step up to the plate.

Watford boss Gianfranco Zola says: "I would love to start well
We have played important games already this season and the team have never disappointed. So I am quite confident they’ll be alright."

Ian Holloway says: "I'm Pretty relaxed to be fair. I think it will be a really good game. Bring it on."

The teams are greeted by a cauldron of noise as a capacity crowd cheer them onto the Wembley pitch.

The fans inside Wembley stadium are belting out the national anthem as the Wembley arch casts a long, dark shadow across the turf. Kick-off is just two minutes away now!

The Watford players form a huddle as kickoff looms at Wembley.

KICK OFF

A good start from Watford, as Daniel Pudil breaks forward, but Crystal Palace clear the ball out for a throw-in.

A short delay at Wembley as Damien Delaney pops some stray claret and blue balloons that have made their way onto the pitch.

A nervy start to the play-off final, with neither side able to create any chances in the first five minutes.

A first glimpse of Wlfried Zaha's ability, as the winger skips away from two Watford challenges before the ball escapes him and runs out of play.

BOOKING! Joel Ekstrand picks up the first booking of the afternoon for a late challenge of Aaron Wilbraham. The defender will have to watch his step now.

Watford force their first corner of the game, as Lloyd Doyley's ball finds Almen Abdi, but the Palace skipper Mile Jedanik nips the ball of his toes.

A stoppage in play as Kagisho Dikgacoi goes down and recieves treatment. There was nobody near the midfielder when he went down, and he is hobbling off the pitch with his head in his hands as his team mates come across to console him.

SUBSTITUTION: The injured Kagisho Dikgacoi is replaced by Stuart O'Keefe in the 18th minute of the match.

CHANCE! Wilfried Zaha evades a couple of challenges before crossing to Aaron Wilbraham, whose shot is blocked by Lloyd Doyley. Although it was only a half chance, it has lifted the Palace fans inside Wembley.

Crystal Palace seem to be getting a fair amount of joy down their right side, with Wilfried Zaha and Joel Ward finding themselves in good positions, but too often the final ball has let them down.

We've reached the halfway point in the first half here, and there has been little to report by the way of chances. The stray balloons have been the greatest source of entertainment so far!

Watford have struggled in this final so far, as Crystal Palace have had a 74% of possession in the past ten minutes. The Hornet's must find a way to stop the ball coming down their left flank, where Wilfried Zaha has seen much of the ball.

BOOKING! Crystal Palace captain Mile Jedanik is the second player to pick up a booking for a late challenge on Abdi. It is the midfielder's 13th booking of the season.

The Eagles force a corner from the resulting free-kick. Julian Speroni drops the ball in the penalty area, but the Palace defenders manage to clear.

CHANCE! Troy Deeney squeezes a ball through to his strike partner Matej Vydra, who collects the ball 18 yards from goal. Damien Delaney comes flying out of nowhere to deflect his shot wide for a corner, though. The best chance of the game so far.

A good spell of pressure for Watford recently, as Matej Vydra finally gets the chance to show why he has been such a menace to defences this season.

Celebrity watch at Wembley, with Watford honorary life president Elton John supporting his side, while comedian Eddie Izzard is at Wembley cheering on Crystal Palace.

Ikechi Anya is causing Crystal Palace all manner of problems at the moment with his pace. He was blocked off by Dean Moxey as he went for a one-two, but the referee missed the foul.

Matej Vydra seems to be hobbling. The news will concern Watford boss Gianfranco Zola, who will assess the injury at half time.

There will be three minutes of added time in the first half.

HALF TIME: Crystal Palace 0-0 Watford

A drab first half comes to an end at Wembley, with very few chances for either side. Matej Vydra had the half's only clear opening after being put through by Troy Deeney, but his goalbound effort from 18 yards was blocked magnificently by Damien Delaney. Kagisho Dikgacoi's final has been cruelly curtailed by a calf injury, but Wilfried Zaha has looked bright when he has been on the ball.

UPDATE: Elsewhere, England have declared declared with a 467 run lead over New Zealand in the second Test Match at Headingley, while Rafael Nadal is through to the second round of the French Open after a 4-6 7-6 6-4 6-3 victory over Germany's Daniel Brands.

Suggestions that Mile Jedanik should have been sent off in the first half. The midfielder picked up a booking for a late challenge on Almen Abdi, but replays suggest that he also elbowed Nathaniel Chalobah in the face while challenging for a header just minutes later. There was certainly a flailing arm from the Australian, but only he knows whether it was intentional. He will be treading a thin line in the second half.

SUBSTITUTION: Championship player of the season Matej Vydra is replaced by Alexandre Geijo. The striker picked up an ankle knock when his shot was blocked in the first half. A big blow for Watford.

KICK OFF: We are back underway at Wembley. Both teams will hope to play better football in the second half, after a scrappy first 45 minutes.

Nathaniel Chalobah picks the ball up 30 yards from goal and shots, but fires well wide. Considering his strike against Leicester City earlier in the season though, he was entitled to that effort.

UPDATE: Kyle Walker has withdrawn from the England squad.

Mile Jedanik seems to be carrying a knock following a challenge early in the second half. It would be a huge blow to The Eagles if they were to lose their captain, having already lost fellow central midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi to injury in the 15th minute.

The second half has already seen much more attacking intent from both sides. Once more, Ikechi Anya and Wilfried Zaha get into good positions for either side, but their crosses are both wasteful.

CHANCE! Alexandre Geijo picks the ball up on the left flank and drives at the heart of the Crystal Palace defence, but his effort from 20 yards is tame, and Speroni gathers with ease. Lloyd Doyley tries his luck from 30 yards a few seconds later, but he scuffs his shot.

CHANCE! This game has come to life! Aaron Wilbraham is put through one-on-one with Manuel Almunia, but the forward checks back onto his left foot his tame shot is blocked. The best chance of the game so far!

BOOKING! Stuart O'Keefe picks up a yellow card for a foul on Abdi. The Palace player then boots the ball at the Watford midfielder, who is lying on the floor. Petulant behaviour from O'Keefe.

CHANCE! Wilfried Zaha holds of three defenders before squaring the ball for Stuart O'Keefe, who drives the ball low and hard, but Manuel Almunia does well to turn it behind for a corner.

CHANCE! The resulting corner isnt cleared properly and Palace knock the ball back into the box, where Aaron Wilbraham picks the ball up unmarked six yards out. Almunia nicks the ball off his toes and knocks it behind for a corner. He almost undoes all his good work by flapping at a corner, but Daniel Gabbidon cannot control the ball, and it squirms away from him with an open net gaping.

A great spell of pressure for Crystal Palace here!

SUBSTITUTION: A substitution in amongst all the madness, with Kevin Phillips entering the fray for Crystal Palace.

Watford have taken the sting out of the game in the last couple of minutes, winning two free kicks in the opposition half and taking their time with them.

Crystal Palace find themselves four on two during a counter attack, but Owen Garvan forces Zaha wide. His cross finds Kevin Phillips, who nods the ball back to Garvan, but his volley dribbles wide.

Surely a goal isn't too far away now, as the game opens up for both teams?

SUBSTITUTION: Cristian Battoccio replaces Nathaniel Chalobah for Watford.

Veteran striker Kevin Phillips seems to be playing on the left of a front three for Crystal Palace. An unorthodox position for the player who has played as a centre-forward for his entire career.

Manuel Almunia does well to deal with a high ball into the Watford box, punching clear not once but twice.

Just ten minutes remaining in the Championship play-off final with the score still locked at 0-0. Unless somebody can come up with a dramatic late winner, it looks as though we are heading for extra-time.

CHANCE! Aaron Wilbraham is stopped by Lloyd Doyley just as he about to pull the trigger. From the resulting throw-in, the ball bounces to Owen Garvan, who fires his volley straight at Manuel Almunia.

BOOKING! Joel Ward is booked for a cynical foul as Watford looked to counter attack. The very definition of a "good" yellow card.

CHANCE! Aaron Wilbraham wastes yet another good chance! Wilfried Zaha's pass finds the Palace striker in space 12 yards out, but once again he is denied by Manuel Almunia.

SUBSTITUTION: Andre Moritz replaces Owen Garvan, as Ian Holloway uses his third and final substitution. Ikechi Anya is also replaced for Watford, with Fernando Forestieri replacing the wing-back.

Cristian Battoccio elects to stepover the ball rather than shooting when he is just 18 yards out from goal. He crosses the ball to Troy Deeney, but his overhead kick sails over the bar. Poor decision making by Battoccio there, he had to shoot.

There will be three minutes of added time at Wembley. Can either side find a late winner?

Wilfried Zaha gets the ball stuck under his feet in a good position, but manages to force a corner. This is surely the last chance of normal time?

CHANCE! Crystal Palace captain Mile Jedanik gets a free header from the corner, but Manuel Almunia dives to his left and holds onto the ball.

FULL TIME: Crystal Palace 0-0 Watford. Extra-time to follow!

The game enters extra-time! After a poor opening 45 minutes, the second half burst into life. There is no doubt that Crystal Palace have had the better chances, but Manuel Almunia has been in inspired form to keep The Eagles out. Aaron Wilbraham has fired straight at the Spanish stopper on a number of occasions, but Watford still pose a considerable threat on the counter attack.

Little time for either side to catch their breath. After a quick team talk on the pitch, the sides are back in place and ready for another 30 minutes of football.

KICK OFF: Extra-time kicks off as Watford and Crystal Palace enter another 30 minutes of football. Both sides have used all three substitutes, so fatigue will surely play a part in the next half an hour.

CHANCE! Troy Deeney has a magnificent chance to put his side ahead! The ball bounces off the striker though, and Julian Speroni leaps to his left and bats the ball away just as Deeney looked certain to tap the ball home from four yards.

Fernando Forestieri blasts the ball into the side netting from the tightest of angles instead of crossing the ball. Once again, poor decision making from Watford after getting into a good area.

Watford have started extra-time brightly, but Crystal Palace have forced a corner.

It's Watford who have a corner at the other end, and the balls bounces out to Cristian Battoccio. He drills the ball towards goal, but his effort is straight at Speroni. Good signs for Watford though, who struggled to contain Crystal Palace in the second half.

Damien Delaney heads the back of Fernando Forestieri in a challenge, and collapses onto the Wembley turf. This will be a worry for Ian Holloway, who has used all three of his substitutes already.

Marco Cassetti brings down Wilfried Zaha on the left flank. The free kick is in a good area for Crystal Palace to deliver.

Damien Delaney, who is back on the pitch after treatment, curls an effort wide from 25 yards.

PENALTY! Marco Cassetti brings down Wilfried Zaha in the box and a penalty is given to Crystal Palace!

GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-0 Watford (Kevin Phillips)

Kevin Phillips rifles his penalty into the top corner of the net to give Crystal Palace a 1-0 lead right at the death of the first half of extra-time! The 39-year-old striker emphatically buried the penalty, leaving Manuel Almunia with no chance!

HALF TIME IN EXTRA-TIME: Crystal Palace 1-0 Watford

Crystal Palace have taken the lead in a pulsating play-off final! Watford have just 15 minutes to level, otherwise their Premier League dream is over.

KICK OFF: Crystal Palace have 15 minutes to hold onto their lead, but Watford will throw everything at them in the second half of extra-time.

Joel Ekstrand lashes out at Aaron Wilbraham and kicks him on the shin, but the officials don't see it. The Watford defender is lucky to still be on the pitch after that reaction.

Watford are struggling to find any rhythm here, as Crystal Palace are sitting back and soaking up the pressure. Just ten minutes remaining for Watford to find a goal.

Andre Moritz brings down Troy Deeney 25 yards from goal in a central position. A big chance for Watford.

Almen Abdi floats the ball around the wall, but his free kick lacks any power, and Julian Speroni holds onto the ball gratefully as the Crystal Palace fans cheer.

Aaron Wilbraham breaks away down the right flank, but instead of crossing to his teammates, he heads for the corner flag. There is still six minutes left to play!

Just five minutes remain for Watford to find an equaliser. Ian Holloway looks like a man possessed on the touchline as he urges his team to keep their shape.

CHANCE! Joel Ward charges down a goalbound shot, as Watford resort to launching the ball into the Crystal Palace box. Desperate measures for Gianfranco Zola's men now.

CHANCE! Fernando Forestieri shows great skill and bamboozles the Palace defence with some neat footwork. He then curls the ball goalwards with the outside of his right foot but Joel Ward heads the ball off the line!

CHANCE! Troy Deeney's flick on drops inches wide of the post!

FULL TIME: Crystal Palace 1-0 Watford. Crystal Palace are promoted to the Premier League!

Kevin Phillips' extra-time penalty sends Crystal Palace into the Premier League! The players are racing around the Wembley pitch with flags and the fans are singing and dancing!

The Watford players have collapsed to their knees after a draining 120 minutes of football. They came so close to equalising in the final minute of extra-time, but Troy Deeney's header dropped inches wide of the post.

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, who was fantastic for Crystal Palace, says: "I'm speechless and exhausted. It's a dream come true. I told myself at the start of the day that I'm giving it all I can."

The Eagles deserved their win today. They had a host of chances in the second half, but a combination of poor finishing and an inspired Manuel Almunia ensured that the game went to extra-time. However, man-of-the-match Wilfried Zaha was brought down by Marco Cassetti in the 105th minute. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and Kevin Phillips - in his fourth play-off final - smashed the penalty into the top corner to propel his side to the Premier League.

The Crystal Palace players are dancing up the Wembley steps on their way to pick up their winners medals and the play-off final trophy. The Championship's top goalscorer, Glenn Murray, joins the rest of the squad in their jubilant celebrations.

Mile Jedanik and club captain Paddy McCarthy lift the play-off final trophy above their heads as the Crystal Palace fans cheer. Glenn Murray gets a particularly loud response from the fans, due to his 29 league goals this season. But the biggest cheer of all is left for Ian Holloway, who simply cannot stop smiling as he holds the trophy aloft!

Wilfried Zaha was head and shoulders above everybody else on the pitch today. It is easy to see why Sir Alex Ferguson parted for £15m to sign the youngster. Now his teammates will travel to Old Trafford next season to play against the winger.

The celebrations continue on the pitch as the Crystal Palace players salute their fans, who are all still in the stadium.

Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has great pedigree in Championship play-off finals. This is his second win in his last three finals and the manager is elated with today's result.
He said: "I'm so proud of these players and I'm so proud of the club. We are in the Premier League, so God help us! It's massive to be back in the Premier League. I'm just delighted for everyone connected with the club."

That's all from Sports Mole's live commentary of the play-off final today. Thanks for sticking with us through what was a rather poor first half, but the game undoubtedly sprung into life in the second half. Crystal Palace were worthy winners today and it was only fitting that Wilfried Zaha won the penalty for Ian Holloway's side and Kevin Phillips struck the winner in his fourth play-off final. I will leave you with Matt's match report and don't forget to check out the analysis, which will be on the website within the next hour. That's all from me though. Goodbye!
