The 30-year-old's temporary deal with Los Blancos is due to finish at the end of the season.
"I have a contract at Chelsea and at present I am only on loan here, so nothing has changed," Essien told The Sport Review.
Essien has made 23 appearances in all competitions for Madrid during the current campaign.
