Brazilian centre-back Eder Militao puts pen to paper on a new contract with Real Madrid until June 2028, according to a report.

Eder Militao has reportedly put pen to paper on a new contract with Real Madrid until June 2028.

The 24-year-old was a vital player for Los Blancos during the 2021-22 campaign, scoring once and providing three assists in 34 La Liga appearances, as Carlo Ancelotti's side won the title.

Meanwhile, he featured on 12 occasions in the Champions League, with Real Madrid lifting the trophy for the 14th time last season courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the final.

Militao's deal had been due to run until June 2025, but it is believed that he was one of the lowest-paid members of the first-team squad at Bernabeu despite his importance to the side.

According to Marca, the Brazil international has now agreed and signed a new contract, which will run until the end of the 2027-28 campaign and also see him improve his salary.

The report claims that the new deal is worth €7m (£6m) plus bonuses per season, which is double what he had previously been on in the Spanish capital.

Meanwhile, it is alleged that the deal includes a new release clause of €500m (£425.4m), with Ancelotti's side determined to protect the centre-back's value.

Real Madrid will reportedly make an announcement once they have returned from their pre-season tour of the United States, which will open with a Clasico against Barcelona in Las Vegas.

Militao has scored four goals and registered four assists in 91 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions, winning two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups and the Champions League.

The South American initially found it difficult to break into the Los Blancos side upon his arrival from Porto in July 2019, with Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane both ahead of him in the pecking order for the centre-back positions.

The pair left Bernabeu last summer, though, which opened the door for Militao to cement his spot in the side last season, and he proved to be key to their La Liga and Champions League success.

Real Madrid have boosted their centre-back options this summer with the arrival of Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea, and it is believed that David Alaba could move across to left-back for the new season.

A recent report claimed that Chelsea were planning a move for Militao this summer but were quickly informed that the defender would not be for sale under any circumstances.

Real Madrid will play Barcelona, Club America and Juventus on their pre-season tour of the United States before taking on Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup on August 10.
