David Moyes believes that Everton will keep hold of Jack Rodwell but suggests that a move away from Goodison Park is a possibility.

Everton boss David Moyes has suggested that he may be resigned to losing midfielder Jack Rodwell as Chelsea step up their pursuit of the England international.

The former Premier League champions are thought to be closing in on a switch for the playmaker, but Moyes has claimed that no approaches have been made for Rodwell.

"His development here has been good," said Moyes. "He came on the scene very early but I'll always think players will be better served being at Everton.

"I don't think we'll be selling because we need the money for the bank or anything like that. But there have been some really big players sold.

"There comes a point where we don't want to become a club preparing players for other clubs. 'We've tried not to be [a selling club]. But times have changed. In the past there weren't players at Everton good enough for the top teams. Everton have that now."

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are also believed to be keeping tabs on the midfielder.
