Jose Mourinho pleased with Chelsea performance

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho declares himself pleased with his side's performance during the 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that his side played well during their 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

John Terry gave the newly-crowned Premier League champions an early lead with a fifth-minute header, but Steven Gerrard's equaliser on the stroke of half time was enough to earn a point for the visitors.

Mourinho handed a full debut to Ruben Loftus-Cheek in midfield, and the Portuguese boss was happy with the youngster's contribution during his time on the pitch.

"It was a good performance if you understand the circumstances. When a team is always playing at the limits to be champions, a team that is champions last weekend it is normal that you lose a bit of intensity," Mourinho told Sky Sports News.

"But we worked hard. We had players at a positive level and we were competing for a result. We were very good in the first half. Physically we went down in the second half. It was important for us to show that we are champions and we have the dignity of trying to get a result.

"Ruben Loftus-Cheek, I took him off because I could imagine him suffering in the final 30 minutes. He came off at the right moment, he understood what the Premier League is and it couldn't be better. I would rather him have a good 60 minutes than a bad 75 or 90 minutes."

Chelsea remain unbeaten at Stamford Bridge in the league this season, with only one home game - a final-day meeting with Sunderland - left to play.
